Hi Fellow Car Clubbers,

Well we have a packed e-Newsletter for you today……

Round 1 Isle of Wight College
A highly successful event last Sunday on what was a very challenging course. Congratulations to Russell Thomson in a borrowed Caterham from Jai, claiming victory over Dan Morgan in the borrowed Special from Andy. Third and fourth were taken by Greg and Dave, each driving their own mini to its limits and finishing just 1/100th of a second apart! Full results are
online.

Allan Marsh took a great set of photos that have now been loaded on the club website. Chris Wood also took a cracking set and his can be viewed here: Chris Wood's IW College Event Photos

There is a write up of the days events on Ventnor Blog, courtesy of Marty.

Round 2 BAE Systems, 6th June
Our first visit to BAE this season takes place in just over 2 weeks. This is bound to be a brilliant event as always at one of our prime venues. No doubt there will be some close racing and a large number of competitors taking part. As such, I would encourage you to take advantage of the methods for early sign-on. Either see us at the pre-event pub meet or alternatively use paypal from the club website. Don’t forget you can also print off your entry form and drop it into me at Luccombe Hall Hotel, Shanklin. By being more organised you will help the day run smoother and this will hopefully facilitate everyone getting their 6 runs in on the day.

Pre-event Pub Meet, 2nd June
We will be holding a pre-event pub meet on Wednesday 2nd June from 8pm. This will be at the Bargemans Rest, Newport Quay. I will be away racing at Anglesey so Matt Price will be on hand to sign you on. Please try to pop down – it makes a huge difference when people sign-on in advance.

Event Safety
Following a review of safety procedures at this weeks committee meeting, there will be some changes to the way events are organised with immediate effect. Historically the club used to run events for around a 4 hour period on a Sunday but in recent years with the popularity of the club and swelling membership numbers, we have extended running times to try and cope with the increase in competitors. In the past it was often the case that competitors would receive as few as 3 runs on a course, whilst we now try to make sure 6 runs are had by everyone, to ensure you continue to receive excellent value for money from the club.

Along with increased numbers of competitors comes the increased risk of an incident. As such, there are some changes being made to ensure the safety of all competitors and spectators at events. Last season saw the introduction of scrutineering for all competitors vehicles for example. This year, you may well have seen on your membership renewal form that you have been asked if you would like to marshal during events. The club would encourage ALL members to participate in marshalling at events. Most clubs now impose this as mandatory upon their members, but we are hoping that you will all realise that a little marshalling is no hard task if it is shared by everyone. Your committee members Rebecca French and Steve Stotesbury will be organising Marshall Training events so you are fully conversant in all aspects of marshalling at a car club event.

The main change however is to the sign on process and the drivers briefing and trackwalk. With immediate effect we will be introducing the following procedure:

Sign-on Deadline – ALL competitors must have completed sign-on by 09.30am on the day of the event. Advance sign on is available in several formats so there is no excuse to be late for an event and not have signed on.

Drivers Briefing and Trackwalk - This is now COMPULSORY for all drivers and will commence at 09.30am sharp. During the trackwalk you will be issued with a wristband to prove you have attended the Drivers Briefing and Trackwalk. No competitor will be allowed to run under any circumstances if they do not have a wristband.

Exceptions – There will be, if required, a second Drivers Briefing and Trackwalk at 1pm for those people who had signed on in advance but were unable to make it to the 09.30am drivers briefing. To qualify to attend the second briefing you must have contacted me to let me know in advance of 09.30am on 07717 844767. There must also be exceptional circumstances present – this is not an excuse to have a lay in and if it is abused you will be unable to compete and forfeit your entry. Day members may be allowed to sign-on after 09.30am and attend the 2nd briefing and trackwalk but that will be strictly at the discretion of the Membership Secretary or Assistant Membership Secretary.

Committee Minutes and Forthcoming Meetings
The minutes of all committee meetings are available for your information on the club website. The latest minutes will be uploaded in the next day or so. Should you have any issues that you would like your committee to take a look at, then please raise those issues with any committee member, or email me and w e will ensure your issues and views are discussed at the next meeting.

An Evening of Motorsport with Tony Southgate
The club are currently in the final stages of organising an evening of motorsport talk with Tony Southgate, at Quay Arts, Newport Quay. The evening will include a buffet meal in the Quay Arts Café and a presentation from Tony who has had an impressive behind-the-scenes career in motorsport. CLICK for a brief summary of his achievements. Expect the evening to be great value at around £10 per head. The provisional date to pencil in your diary is Monday 21st June. This is an open event and is likely to be highly popular. Times and further details will follow shortly.
